IEEE P1157

IEEE P1157 is an early (1987) standard for transfer of medication information (e.g., patient medical records) between systems by different vendors. This article presents the objectives of the standard, data model and so on.

CAN & CANopen

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial bus network medium-access layer protocol. It became an international standard (ISO 11898–1) in 1993 and is commonly used for embedded control, in particular, in automatic control systems. CiA (CAN in Automation) is a nonprofit international group that develops CAN-based higher-layer protocols, including several dedicated device profiles for medical devices and healthcare equipment such as X-ray collimator (CiA 412-2) and measurement systems (CiA 412-6).

IEEE1073

IEEE 1073 standard consists of several parts that define the requirements of all layers for medical device communication. OpenECG

The mission of the OpenECG project is to promote the consistent use of format and communication standards for computerised ECGs and to pave the way towards developing similar standards for stress ECG, Holter ECG, and real-time monitoring. OpenECG, coordinated by an interdisciplinary, highly motivated consortium, will attract membership from healthcare authorities, cardiologists, integrators, engineers, standardisation bodies, manufacturers, and the public.

DICOM is a standard for handling, storing, printing, and transmitting information on medical imaging. DICOM is managed by a division of the Association of Electrical and Medical Imaging Equipment Manufacturers (NEMA) holds the copyright to this standard.
